New Haven chamber folk group Kindred Queer have announced their new album, Child, due out May 5th.

Kindred Queer’s lineup is Xavier Serrano (lead vocal, guitar), Olive (of Olive Tiger on cello, vocals), Derrik Bosse (bass), Quinn Pirie (drums) and honorary member Dylan McDonnell (flute). Already a popular concert draw in New England — where they’ve played the Connecticut Folk Festival, as well as shows alongside Waxahatchee, Plants and Animals, and Kishi Bashi — the bandmates officially unveil their complex, chamber-folk sound with Child, produced by Patrick Dalton (of The Proud Flesh).

To celebrate the release of the new record, Kindred Queer will be performing their release show at Cafe Nine in New Haven with Dr. Caterwaul’s Cadre of Clairvoyant Claptraps on May 5th (Event Page Here.)

The band reports: “From start to finish, Child travels the mental process of an individual who is facing an existential awakening through the death of a relationship. The opening track hammers down on the folk tradition and as the record progresses it twists away, adding enough sonic tension to bring a lullabying, waltzing wave to a cathartic crest.”
